Honestly, this series put David Dalglish on my list of favorite authors. I'm currently working my way through his other books, after just finishing the Shadowdance series (in record time for me, i might add). his books are so good, its so hard to put them down! hes funny and witty but in a way that fits with the setting of his books. i have to say, now that i'm reading other books of his, i am finding myself missing Zusa, and Haern and even Thren. You connect to the characters way more than you think you're going to initially. I highly recommend reading the whole series because its great! and the world itself is so great - you can really tell that the author cares about what hes writing about and is genuinely invested in the story.

A Dance of Shadows Shadowdance series Book 4 edition by David Dalglish Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This series grows on you
Another great work from David Dalglish.
Since I read the third book of the Shadowndance collection, I have moved to the Half-Orc series and 4 books later I decided to go back to The Watcher in the Dance of Shadows. It was such a great experience be back to a world full of conspiracy and secrets with my favourites characters.
I totally recommend it.
Warning Once you start reading these books you wont stop! I started reading the Shadowdance series then had to go and read the other works by this author. This book is truly a great read. I recommend you go to the authors site and look at the timeline. You cannot go wrong with any of this books. Im currently reading them in reverse chronological order for some odd reason.
This series gets better with every book. I gave this book a five mainly because of its grit. Good story, good characters, even the villians seems to grow on you. This series isnt about a hero who shows up in the nick of time to save the day, but at times the hero needs to be saved by a few friends. Yes haerne seems superhuman but he isnt always killing the bad guys, though it seems he can, but the author shows that even the best can be beaten, which brings in haernes friends and then you see the other characters' mettle and how different they are. The bad guys are all different from eachother as well. This book and the others before it I recomend to anyone who is wanting something different in the fantasy genre.
David Dalglish is awesome! Great writing, great world building. Along the lines of Jim Butcher, Peter V Brett, Kim Harrison, George RR Martin, etc. If you like fantasy this book is for you! If you don't like fantasy, might like this anyway as it has similar kind of Game of Thrones vibes, but with better world building in my opinion. It's clear and decisive while still maintaining the mystery, and turn arounds that great books all have.
After having read the three previous books rather quickly, I was excited to continue the adventure with this one. I was a little let down by the Author's lack of effort for this book. It seemed as though he had lost touch with many of the characters and did not know where to take the story. It seemed as if this book was only in here to make money so that he could pursue something else.

It is possible that this book was written in this fashion so that it becomes a stepping stone for the books that follow. Hopefully the characters will be revived enough that we will fall in love with them again. I don't know if I can endure another lackluster effort in this series.
Going into this book I was not expecting much. I had recently read 'Blood of Gods' and was left a bit wanting.

The description of this book had me a bit put off as well. "Wasn't the previous book in this series about a copy-cat psycho," I remember thinking to myself. Indeed, the beginning of the Widow story line left me rolling my eyes at the echos of the Wraith story line from 'Dance of Death' (now Dance of Mirrors, which I have not read yet).

Yet, the true drama started to gripe me about half way through and I was reminded why I enjoy reading David's books so much.

For me, the best part so far are the twists. I can not mention more because I am afraid to give too much away. There were a couple of instances that I never saw coming, and that is saying something since I usually can guess a book or movie plot 5 minutes into it.

A Dance of Shadows ended on a high note that left me wanting to voraciously read the next book and I consider this an excellent addition to my library,
